“Why the COVID-19 Vaccine is Safe and Why Everyone Should Get Vaccinated” By Kaylee McGrath

While 207 million Americans are now fully vaccinated, which is 62.9% as of January 17, 2022… there are many US citizens and non-citizens reluctant to get vaccinated. What exactly is the hesitation or reluctancy with getting this very important vaccine? Simply misinformation, YES misinformation!

Listed below is a short list of “Myths and Facts” that the Center of Disease Control (CDC) released that I researched online related to this essential vaccine that everyone should get.

• MYTH: The ingredients in COVID-19 vaccines are dangerous.

o FACT: Nearly all the ingredients in COVID-19 vaccines are also ingredients in many foods, fats, sugars, and salts.

• MYTH: The natural immunity I get from being sick with COVID-19 is better than the immunity I get from COVID-19 vaccination.

o FACT: Getting a COVID-19 vaccination is a safer and more dependable way to build immunity to COVID-19 than getting sick with COVID-19.

• MYTH: COVID-19 vaccines cause variants.

o FACT: COVID-19 vaccines do not create or cause variants of the virus that causes COVID-19. Instead, COVID-19 vaccines can help prevent new variants from emerging.

• MYTH: All events reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) are caused by vaccination.

o FACT: Anyone can report events to VAERS, even if it is not clear whether a vaccine caused the problem. Because of this, VAERS data alone cannot determine if the reported adverse event was caused by a COVID-19 vaccination.

• MYTH: The mRNA vaccine is not considered a vaccine.

o FACT: mRNA vaccines, such as Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, work differently than other types of vaccines, but they still trigger an immune response inside your body.

• MYTH: COVID-19 vaccines contain microchips.

o FACT: COVID-19 vaccines do not contain microchips. Vaccines are developed to fight against disease and are not administered to track your movement.

• MYTH: Receiving a COVID-19 vaccine can make you magnetic.

o FACT: Receiving a COVID-19 vaccine will not make you magnetic, including at the site of vaccination which is usually your arm.

• MYTH: COVID-19 vaccines can alter my DNA.

o FACT: COVID-19 vaccines do not change or interact with your DNA in any way.

All of us know that the United States is an amazing smart country, so why all of a sudden do some Americans want our 245+ years of smart success go down the drain? The bottom line is…stop making this political and just do the correct and smart thing for not only yourself, but for others by… SIMPLY GETTING VACCINATED! The worst that will happen is your arm will be swollen for a few days and you can experience chills, and a possible low-grade fever. As a reminder, children ages 5-years and older can get the vaccine, everyone 18-years old and older can get the booster.

As many of my readers know, I have a processing/learning disability, but I’m proud to say…I totally understand why getting the COVID-19 vaccine and Booster is so vitally important…why can’t the unvaccinated get it, instead of aiding the spread of COVID? On a personal note, I was fully vaccinated on May 1, 2021 and received my booster on November 2, 2021. I was able to go on vacation and travel to Ireland safely, returned safely, because I was vaccinated. I remained safe by being proactive, wearing a mask everywhere I went, practiced social distancing, and washed my hands every chance I got in Ireland.
