02/19/2024 “Women Need to Put Themselves First” By Kaylee McGrath

Opening Statement:

It is never too late for women to prioritize healthy lifestyle changes, whether they are stay at home moms, full time students, career women, or retired. Researching this topic was fun, informative, easy, and I wanted to share some of these great suggestions to all. Listed below are five suggestions that women need to do today to stay healthy tomorrow.

 

1.       Sleep Well

a)       On average, adult women need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night. Establish a calming nighttime routine to help wind down:

b)      Meditate

c)      Take a warm bath

d)      Read a book

 

2.       Get Screened Stay Up to Date on Screenings, Including:

a)      Pap smears

b)      Mammograms

c)      Bone density screening

d)      Cholesterol check

e)      Blood pressure screening

f)       Colon cancer screening

 

3.       Get Active

a)       Incorporate at least 30 minutes of exercise into your daily routine.

b)      If you’re struggling to get motivated, make it simple and take the stairs instead of the elevator at work

c)       Take the dog for a walk around your neighborhood and if you don’t have a dog ask your neighbor to walk their dog

d)      Do a quick home workout between commercials on TV

 

4.       Eat More Fruits and Veggies

a)       Only 1 in 10 adults get enough fruits and vegetables in their diet.

b)      Aim for 1.5–2 cups of fruit and 2–3 cups of vegetables each day.

 

5.       Stay Connected Staying Connected to Friends and Family Can Help You:

a)       Sharpen your memory and cognitive skills

b)      Stave off feelings of loneliness

 

Closing Statement:

Living a healthy lifestyle and making time for yourself can help prevent chronic diseases and long-term illnesses. Feeling good about yourself and taking care of your health are important for your self-esteem and self-image. Maintain a healthy lifestyle by doing what is right for your body. There are 7 main components of a balanced diet. Additionally, there are seven essential factors for a balanced diet which are: carbs, protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and water.
