Opening Statement:

Arthritis can be very painful and at times extremely difficult to manage. Although there is no cure for arthritis there are possible ways to limit arthritis pain as stated by many doctors and nutritionists. There are several foods that may ease symptoms and give you relief to carry on with your normal daily routine, family life, as well as be able to go to work.


What is Arthritis?

An inflammation or swelling of one or more joints. It describes more than 100 conditions that affect the joints, tissues around the joint, and other connective tissues.


What Is the Main Cause of Arthritis?

Most forms of arthritis are thought to be caused by a fault in the immune system that causes the body to attack its own tissues in the joints. This may be inherited genetically. Other forms of arthritis can be caused by problems with the immune system or by a metabolic condition, such as gout.


The following foods may help reduce inflammation, which can ease arthritis symptoms:

· Fish high in omega-3 fatty acids (Salmon, Swordfish, Tuna, Trout, and Atlantic mackerel)

· Blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries

· Walnuts, almonds, pistachios, and other nuts

· Oranges, grapefruit, and other citrus fruits

· Yogurt and other low-fat dairy products

· Spinach, kale, and other leafy greens

· Green tea

· Olive oil


The Foods You Should Avoid to Manage Arthritis Pain

Try to limit or avoid eating these foods listed below, which can contribute to arthritis inflammation:

· Sugar, including soda, candy, and baked goods

· Refined white flour, which is in a variety of baked goods

· Saturated fats, including red meat and full-fat dairy products

· Fried foods

· Processed foods, including snack foods


Other Ways to Relieve Arthritis Pain?

Try heat and/or ice therapy

· Heat can help relieve muscle and joint stiffness, warm up joints before activity, and/or ease a muscle spasm.

· Cold can help reduce joint inflammation, swelling, and pain.


Closing Statement:

In addition to trying the above-mentioned foods and heat/ice therapy, there is several prescription drugs that your doctor can prescribe. The most common treatments for arthritis include traditional oral medications like analgesics and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Other common treatments include corticosteroid injections, sacroiliac joint injections, ultrasound guided major joint injection, and joint surgery. Always consult your healthcare professional before adding/omitting, certain foods, vitamin supplements, or a new exercise program.
